Embracing Ostomy Life

Every year, over 100,000 people in the U.S. face the life altering challenge of ostomy surgery. Unfortunately, due to a lack of education and support, many of them face a very difficult recovery and become so discouraged as to say, “I’d rather die than wear an ostomy bag.”

“Just because you have an ostomy it does not stop you and it doesn’t dictate your future.”
Jearlean Taylor
Double ostomate and international fashion model
Rolf Benirschke, former NFL Kicker and Man of the Year has been on a mission to change that for the past 40+ years. During his third season with the San Diego Chargers, Rolf required ostomy surgery for his uncontrolled ulcerative colitis. Against all odds, he returned to the NFL to play seven more seasons with the Chargers, becoming the first professional athlete to play with an ostomy appliance. He has been an outspoken champion of the ostomy community and recently founded Embracing Ostomy Life, which includes recovery/support programs to provide hope and ensure that no one goes through ostomy surgery alone.
