The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s mission is to find cures for Crohn’s disease and uncreative colitis and improve quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. Collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic and debilitating diseases that affect millions of children and adults in America.
Because of continued commitment from supporters like The Legacy, the Foundation is making great strides in IBD. Stories of resilience and hope of their supporters inspire them to be relentless in the efforts to change the lives of people living with IBD and discover cures through avenues like:
Technology to invest in a “smart pill” that delivers medicine directly to diseased areas in the intestines.
A new blood test predicts which IBD patients are at high risk of having multiple relapses within the following 12-18 months.
Studies on how diet and nutrition can help patients manage their IBD symptoms.
Advocate for decisions about medication to remain between the patient and their doctor.
A new Spanish-language website to engage patients and caregivers who represent diversity of the IBD community.
Mason Harvey, CCF Hero
When Mason was seven years old, he started raising money for the Ronald McDonald House. He had always been healthy and was passionate about keeping families together when a child was sick. In 2019 he decided he wanted to raise funds year-round, so he started Good Karma Candles. In June of 2020, Mason was admitted to Rady’s Children’s Hospital and would remain there for almost two months. He was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and upon hearing treatment options and how this disease cannot be cured, he knew he had to do something. So, on that day in Room 213, Mason and his mom decided to change the mission of Good Karma Candles to raise funds for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
Together, we hope to find better treatment methods, a cure, and raise awareness for such a debilitating disease.
