The Legacy Foundation’s support of Voices for Children has helped to ensure that abused and neglected children in San Diego’s foster care system receive the advocacy and support they need to thrive. The Legacy Foundation’s generous 2016 gift helped to revolutionize the way VFC supports children in foster care. Four years prior to your gift, VFC made a commitment to increase the number of children we serve each year. A key component of this initiative was the launch of a Case Liaison Program, a staff advocacy program that stations VFC staff in dependency courtrooms where they assess and triage cases in real time. VFC Case Liaisons identify key issues within each child’s case prior to assigning a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), and they carry a caseload of children for whom they provide direct advocacy. Today, the program exists in each of the dependency courtrooms in San Diego County. Because of the Legacy Foundation, VFC increased the number of children served each year, and the Legacy Foundation’s continued generosity helps VFC to achieve our goal to serve every child who enters San Diego’s foster care system.
