2024 Junior Legacy at Pro Kids

Gold Medal Winners
Rick Gluck – Paul Edstrom – Pablo O’Brien – Roland Prairie

As the calendar turned its eyes to Spring, we had the pleasure of presenting the annual Junior Legacy at Pro Kids. Inaugurated several years ago, the Junior Legacy pairs 18 Legacy players with 18 junior golfers representing Pro Kids. The format mirrors that of the Rolf Benirschke Legacy Golf Invitational held in the early Fall of the year. Two Legacy players are paired with two Pro Kids juniors, competing over 27 holes. The tournament is traditionally opened with the signing of the National Anthem. This year, Pro Kids alumnus April Ranches, graced the field with her beautiful, respectful rendition.

Following each 18 hole round all players are re-paired, seeing to it that no one plays with the same player twice during the day. The Junior Legacy is a celebration of more than a quarter century of the significant impact the dedicated staff at Pro Kids has had on generations of young ladies and gentlemen. Founded by an original San Diego Charger, Ernie Wright, the mission of Pro Kids can be summed up in a single phrase: “Education is the key, golf is the hook.” At the conclusion of the final 18 holes, Olympic style medals, Gold, Silver, and Bronze, are placed over the heads of the top three podium finishing teams. The ceremony of receiving the medals, presented by Pro Kids players, has become a proud moment for all competitors and their families. Bronze medals were presented to Pro Kids members Daito Maruyama and Cristian Mouet and their Legacy teammates Rick Weitzen and Gary Levine. The silver medal recipients were led by Pro Kids’ Ava Sanchez and Kyle Hickey, accompanied by Servando Carrasco and Aaron Hasnain representing The Legacy. Standing atop the highest step of the podium, sporting Gold medals, were Pro Kids stars Roland Prairie and Pablo O’Brien and their partners Paul Edstrom and Rich Gluck flying The Legacy flag. For two decades The Legacy has faithfully supported the mission of Pro Kids as an annual beneficiary. The Legacy Family is proud to stand side by side with the Pro Kids staff as they mentor the inspiring juniors, practicing the time-honored Words To Live By, guiding the members to reach a future of success. Ernie’s vision of years ago lives on in his memory.
